Work I've been doing at Absa Bank
Currently my role at Absa bank as Senior UI Designer has given me a fresh perspective of what it takes to design products at scale. The importance of a transparent collaborative relationship between Product, Engineering and Design can not be over emphasised. Although my role mainly revolves around visual design I regularly get involved with user testing, prototyping, design thinking and mentoring younger designers.
Card sorting & Surveys

- Helped to verify our navigation structure
- Quantify percentages of how people organised content
To help us evaluate the website’s information architecture I embarked on a card sort exercise using 16 participants. 30 People would have been ideal but there was a time and resource constraint. The technique I used was a hybrid between closed and open card sorting. By the end of the card sort I tabulated the data in an Excel spreadsheet to quantify percentage wise what people’s mental model possibly is around navigating their online banking.
User testing

- Designing interviews
- Designing test plans
- Facilitating user tests
- Scribing user tests
Although I’m not the UX lead on the projects I helped with the user testing. I’ve helped to design a test plan, create test objectives, writing a script, facilitating user tests and collating insights to present to stakeholders.
User Interface Design (UI Design)

- UI Design
- Interaction design
- Framer Prototyping
- UI Style guide design
My main responsibility at Absa is the visual design of user interfaces. This included creating a design language and UI style guide. This UI style guide formed the basis of all other products in organisation and currently being incorporated in Absa’s universal design system. Front -end engineers have used the style guide to develop a live pattern library which is now consumed throughout the whole organisation.
